How do you know if you are on your spiritual path? What is spiritual growth? Your life is your spiritual path and if you are wondering whether you are growing spiritually, you are. Each second of your life is an opportunity to fulfill your purpose here on earth and no moment is too insignificant to ignore. As you go through your day, coming into contact with different people, do you take each encounter as an opportunity? How would you feel if you had been in a deserted place and not seen another person for weeks or maybe even months? You would be elated to see someone. However in the course of our daily activity we overlook those entering an exiting in our lives. Are we so busy thinking about our spiritual growth that we are not living it.
Each moment of our lives is a step along our spiritual path. If you spend your life searching for something that is all around you the entire time, you will not experience the process. It might be that the person that comes on the elevator with you is someone you have known in another lifetime or on another one of the multi-dimensional lives we are all living. After all, we dream of beings we don't know and accept that without question. Perhaps you don't know that person going up in the same lift as you, but that person is sharing your space and you have the choice to recognize that person or not. You have the power to change that person, just by acknowledging them or speaking to them. When I have the intention to interact with someone, kind words come to me. An act of kindness can filter into the universe. I was carrying heavy bags to my car the other day and a man got out of his car and said, "Please let me help you.
I don't want to see you carrying that heavy load. He took half of the bags and helped me load the trunk." I said, "Wow, a gentleman," as tears welled up in my eyes. I truly needed an act of kindness that morning and I was touched by his action. In return, it encouraged me help someone else later on in the day.
We don't need a blueprint for our spiritual path or a ruler to measure or spiritual growth because we have our feelings. When you are on your path and growing spiritually, you will know, because you will feel good. What is all this spiritual growth about anyway, you may ask; it is about knowing yourself. I know myself, you might say, I've been with myself all my life. Yes, you have, but you have been with the self that has been created, more often than not, by your environment, you culture and your family and peers, a self that separates us from our true selves.
We are intimately connected with a society that advocates suffering, struggle, and guilt as normal parts of life, thereby creating a culture based on victimization. As you experience the growth of the spirit and consciousness, moving from possible reality to possible reality you are finding little bits of yourself about which you have forgotten along the way and after awhile you become whole again. This is the spiritual journey of life, somewhat like a scavenger hunt where you get clues to help you find what you need. Cherish every moment for, in the words of Edmund Spencer, there is nothing lost, that may be found, if sought.
