From spiritual point of view, grateful consist of knowing, being and doing. To be grateful spiritually, we should recognize what are the God bounties to us. Next is to recognize the feeling associated with the bounties. The last one is to do what God ask us to do as a show of gratitude to Him for the bounties. Being grateful is one of the key achievement in spiritual growth.
Ignorance about the bounties will make us not grateful spiritually and will not contribute to spiritual growth. What are the bounties that we enjoying every moment of our life but we forgot that they are from God? God gives us the sun, without the sun there will be no life (plants, animals, human). God also gives us water, without it there will be no life. God gives us air for us to breath. Without air, we can only last 15 seconds (more or lest). God give us earth, we have no place to live but on the earth. What other bounties can you think of? How about our limbs, health and wealth? Everything between the earth and sky, are the God’s bounties to us. Which of the bounties of God you want to deny? Accept it and you’ll have progress in spiritual growth.
Now you know the bounties of God. Are you feeling great
about it? Can you imagine the life without the sun, if there is life? How about life without water? You can survive maybe up to seven days, but you’ll be half-dead. What is the feeling when you breathe in fresh air? Are you feeling great, feeling rejuvenated?
What are the doing for being grateful? Is it sufficed to say, “Lord, thank you for Your Blessing”. You’re being spiritually grateful only when you use the bounties in the path of God. Use your limbs and health for the benefits of mankind and other God's creations. Use your wealth for the well-being of yourself, your family, your relatives, and your community. If you do not use the bounties in the path of God, then you’re not grateful spiritually. For example, you’re not being spiritually grateful if you use your limbs to break a branch or a ranting of a tree without valid reason. The God created trees for purpose, amongst which is to generate oxygen for us to breathe.
From spiritual growth aspect, it is importance to be grateful to God for His Bounties. Be present and spiritually grateful on the bounties and you’ll be successful, both material and spiritual. Being grateful not only in words but in action, that is doing what God ask us to do and refrain ourselves from doing what God forbids.
