Einstein said, "The most incomprehensible thing about the world is that it is comprehensible." Man, using his imaginative capabilities, has been able to comprehend the universe expanding to billions of light years as well as the size of atom and electrons which are many zillion times smaller than the size of a grain. Man has been able to see the past that existed many billion years ago and able to predict the future with accuracy. All knowledge seems to originates in the mind of the man. How it happens is the most incomprehensible thing in this world.
Thus, the most fundamental reason of man's imagination is the knowledge of the self as all theories and imaginations first originates from the mind of the person and then proven to the world by different means. Thus man possesses the attributes of the universe in him. Indian philosophers realized this vital truth many thousands of years ago when they proclaimed Aham Brahamasmi (I am the universe).
However, the modern science has proven that this proclamation is in fact true. All cells of the body have something common which is popularly known as DNA. Every person can be identified by the examination of the DNA present in any cell of the body including hair and saliva. A doctor can predict the disease of the person simply by examining any biological cell of the person as all cells share the symptom of the person.
All scriptures state that God is present in all creations. Man being one of His prime creations has all the attributes of God though that may lie dormant in him unless explored. Hence a person can know all about God simply by knowing any man just like a doctor can know a person by the examination of a cell of the body. God is the common thread or light that is present in all people. Hence by knowing people, one can know God far more accurately than discovered by any scripture. The only question is why should one know God? What benefits accrue to the person who has developed proper understanding of God? What we miss by not knowing God?
Why to Know God?In our day to day discourse of life, God does not seem to play any role. Many societies consider religions as the matter of personal choice which must be left to the individuals. When we are dealing with people of different countries, religions and languages, all having diffident concept of God, the common knowledge of God seems to be impossible. There seems no convergence of the idea of God from the scriptures.
It is because of this reason, that religions are hardly taught in any school or universities in the modern societies. Only the interested people may take some course on the theologies, but most of us never get any education on religion.
How can religions be thought? There seems to be no common teachings or principles. Unlike science, where everyone agrees to same basic principles, across the globe, there is no common principle in religion. There are more differences between the religions than the common elements. Thus any discussion about religion can not take place since everyone wants to stick to his religion and remains sure about their scripture.
Identification of GodGod is represented differently in different religions. Religions have been originated on the basis of some scriptures which are based on the teachings of some Prophets who had been the messenger of God. Yet all religions provides different message from God which are so divergent from each other that often the conflicts arises in proving which religion has the right message of God.
Yet all religion seems to agree on some basic points or some basic characteristic of God viz.
(1) God is creator of the Universe
(2) God is omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient
(3) Nothing exists without God i.e. God is present in all its creations.
(4) There are some universal laws in this universe which are universally applicable to everyone.
These fundamental principles are universal that does not depend on the faith of the person. However, they are presented in different religion in different ways.
The Common Denominator in Human BeingsEach person in the world seems to be different from each other from external observation. Every one thinks differently, looks differently and believes differently. Such is the diversity in the thoughts and perception of people that it is wisely said that if two people think identically then one of them is redundant.
Yet we seem to know the mind and thoughts of other people easily. How can we know the mind of other people since the mind is not visible and known? Yet we seem to know the mind of most people who matters to us. We know the minds of our parents, teachers, colleges, clients etc quite accurately. Unless we know them, there is no way one can manage our personal or professional life. Imagine what would happen if we are really so different from each other that nothing is common in us.
The situation can be compared with the use of computers, presuming every computer uses different software to run its program. So if you have prepared a document, you have to physically carry that computer to other people in order to demonstrate your documents. Thank fully, all computers use some common platform, so that documents prepared on one computer can be easily sent to other computers by email or by and hard disk. That is why the whole world uses common software like Microsoft so that you can
communicate with each other easily using the common platform. Even different platform like Linux are made compatible to Microsoft so that one has no difficulty in using a different platform.
Language is another common platform that has been created by man to communicate with each other. Languages enabled a man to share common thoughts and develop on them. Imagine the world without a language or each person speaking a different language. There would have been no growth in civilization.
It is, therefore, evident that unless there is something common between human race, it is impossible to understand each other. The more is the common element, the better one can understand the other person.
What could be common in all people?
Is it language? No
Is it sex of the person? No
Is it culture? No
Is it religion? No
Is it feeling? Yes
Is it love? Yes
Is it hatred? Yes
Is it compassion? Yes
Is it the sense of justice? Yes
We may notice that what is common in all people is actually something that is not man-made but a man is born of it. The common factor amongst all creation is the basic nature of the person and it has nothing to be done with nurture. These characters of the man are common in all cultures and tradition which has not undergone any change with time nor it would change in future.
If these attributes of men have not been created by mankind, who had created them? How it is created? These questions are so fundamental to mankind that there seems to be no logical explanation for them. Why does a man feel attracted towards a woman? This may be common to all animals as it may be necessary for procreation. Why do people feel love towards those who are friends and hate those who are enemies? This is the basic instinct in all species.
Yet there are many traits peculiar to man. Why do we feel bad when we see injustice? When you see a poor man victimized or see tears in the eyes of the helpless, how do you feel? Why do all men respect those who sacrifice their selfish interest for the country or other people? Why do people love those who love others and hate those who hate others?
The feeling of love, hate, compassion and justice is common in all traditions of human beings irrespective of culture. Love for the good and hatred for evil is prevalent in all. The concept of good and evil is also common in all societies, though each society evolved totally independent to each other.
There is no explanation for the common elements that is present in all human beings. The understanding of the common element is the essence of all religions, arts and sciences. The common element in all is often referred as soul in religions which is believed to be the divine spark or God that is present in all human beings.
The Knowledge of GodThe knowledge of God is the knowledge of the common force that is present in all beings. The difficulty lies in understanding this common force as no language can explain it. Language is too inadequate a medium to express soul or God or any creation that has not been created by man. Can you define even the face of person in words so accurately that another person can reconstruct the face of the person from those words? It is simply impossible.
Can you describe your parents, your children or your friends in words? The answer is simply no. Volumes have been written in describing the historical persons like Hitler, Gandhi or Stalin, yet all descriptions are different and incomplete.
Yet we understand almost every person who matters to us without much difficulty and we can easily predict his actions or his feelings automatically. Even our pets understand us quite well. Yet if you are asked to describe your closest friend you fail to do it in words.
It is because we understand people not by using our mind but by using the common force that is present in us as well as in all persons i.e. soul or God in us. Thus the understanding comes automatically purely on the call of the desire. It is through this soul that all people are connected with each other and to the God. One who can understand this common force can understand any person.
Know God YourselfAll great philosophers and scriptures have always emphasized the need to understand the Self. It is because, if you can know yourself, you have developed the connection between the mind and the soul. Hence you can understand the mind of every person easily as all souls are connected with each other. Only the soul of a person can understand the soul of another person and that of the soul of the universe or God.
All scriptures, arts and science are just the body of this knowledge. Thus the reading of all only can provide the clue or the trigger to invoke the knowledge that lies dormant in every person. This is the source of all understanding. The challenge is to discover the common truth in all scriptures and also in all person. This is not possible by mind, but only by the soul that lies behind all knowledge that has ever been created in this world. The true knowledge of God, thus appears from within when mind is calm and soul has its say.
