Do you think life's not going too well just now? Do you feel that everybody's out to get you? Or you can't stand your boss?

Well perhaps it's you that is the problem.

Brandon Flowers, lead singer of one of my favourite bands The Killers, sings the line "he doesn't look a thing like Jesus, but he talks like a gentleman" in their cracking track When You Were Young.

Brandon Flowers was brought up as a Mormon, a branch of Christianity that believes, amongst other things, that humans can become Godlike, not equal with God, but can take on Godlike characteristics.

When Mormons see people taking on Godlike qualities, they're talking through the eyes of their religion, from their perception of Christianity. It's an interesting interpretation of Christian and biblical teachings. However I'm not going to discuss Christianity or confine my point here to any one religious perspective.

I would like to look at it through a different lens, one not restricted to the realms of religious beliefs. What I believe Mormons are referring to is how we can see unconditional love resonating from within another sentient being: in a person truly at peace with them self.

The universe around us is only seen from our perception. We see the world and others in it through our own sense of reality, through our eyes. We see what we want to see, therefore the world is a reflection of our self.

If you see anger and hatred or feel fear in another human being you are only seeing yourself echoed in that person. Your current weak state of mind is projecting itself
out into the world around you.

Similarly, if you see love, kindness and happiness in others, that's what you're seeing on the inside, again it's an imitation of you.

If someone puzzles you, take a closer look - maybe you puzzle yourself?

Perhaps you're the enigma that needs unraveling.

Whatever you project in your mind materializes in the world around you. So, if you manifest racism, intolerance and homophobia then it will exist in the world at large.

If we all embody hatred and anger then abuse in the home, wars and ethnic cleansing will just keep on happening.

So our perception of reality is very important; in all you see around you, you're only seeing your internal thoughts coming bouncing back at you.

So if you allow yourself some positive and affectionate thoughts once in a while your world around you will not only begin to seem to, but will also actually become, a whole lot better.

So back to unconditional love, sometimes you're lucky enough to meet another human being and you get to see a brief glimpse of it, if only for a small fraction of time: a true sensation of peace and calm.

However, you'll only get to see it by allowing yourself to become more open to it by changing your thoughts.

It won't reveal itself unless it permits you to.
